Greenbelt Sites In Danger In East Dorset

As part of the Regional Spatial Strategy East Dorset District Council has proposed five areas for “urban extensions”.

These are:

· An area North of Wimborne which seems to be the area north of Burts Hill (upto 600 dwellings)

· An area West of Wimborne at The Cuthbury (upto 200 dwellings)

· An area to the north of Corfe Mullen at Pardy’s Hill (see Keep Corfe Mullen Green Website)

· An area to the west of Ferndown at Blunt’s Farm (for commercial/industrial development).

· An area to the west of Hurn Airport at Parley Cross

Additional sites have been assessed for suitability as part of the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment exercise, details of these sites can be found at:

Green Belt Land

North of Leigh Road

The map below shows the green area enclosed by Leigh Road/Wimborne Road West to the south, Hayes Close, Cedar Drive to the east, Cutlers Place, Olivers Way, Olivers Road,  Park Homer Drive to the north and Leigh Lane and the Vineries to the west. Some of this area is owned by a group of developers and although this area is not currently been included in the Regional Spatial Strategy until East Dorset District Council announces it’s firm plans for the sites it wishes to develop we should be concerned that this area may be included.

Plan of “Urban Extension” Site in North Wimborne

This is the best plan we have at the moment which shows the proposed area in Burts Hill. The site proposed for development is the area shaded orange and is sited to the north of Burts Hill. EDDC have not said which site will actually be included in the Local Plan and is considering a green spaces to the North and West of Wimborne which include the Burts Hill area shown and the allotments at The Cuthbury.
